Description: ("The Missing Piece") The very label of the CD says everything to those who had in their hands books about the piece! How to look for the missing piece and what to do when we find it – you’ll find out from the songs of this album!
The band was founded in 1992 by Nikola Pavkovic of Instant Karma, and Dada Antov. In November of the same year the band records their first two songs “Izabela” and “Mrtva je” which were later included in their first album. During 1993 many musicians went through the band. One of them was Dragana Mrkajic who joined the band as a guitar player. In the following period, it turned out that Dragana’s vocals were the winning combination for OPO, so she stood out in front of the mike, and formed the solid base of one of the best band of the 90s.
In May of 1994 OPO held their first concert and recorded new songs “Vremojed” and “Nikako ne mogu da” which appeared in top lists all across the country. The first music video was done for “Izabela” which was at the same time their first hit at all the TV stations, and which was on the top lists for 10 months after publishing.
In May of 1995 OPO released their first album, and held over 50 concerts all across the country. Their first album was a great success among the wider audience. In June 1996 OPO signed their first professional contract, and released their second album, “Barbiecue”. That is when their unstoppable assault to the top of the Yugoslav pop rock scene began. In the first six months after the release, four hit songs were singled out, and Barbiecue became the best-selling Yugoslav album in that year. The result of this great popularity was a very successful tour in 1997, highlighted by two concerts in Belgrade’s SKC – because the first one was sold out a week in advance.
The renowned movie director Darko Bajic included two OPO’s songs (“Mladicu moj” and “Sasa Ajdanov”) in his movie “Balkan Rules”, which was the best movie of 1997. Because of its great popularity, the Barbiecue album was remixed in 1997 by Mirko Vukomanovic, and named “Barbiemix”
