Azra is the legendary Zagreb rock group founded in 1977. It’s named after the same named poem by Henirich Heine. Azra achieves their cult status by persistent and uncompromising gigs, mostly in Lapidarij and Student Centre in Zagreb, and Johnny Stulic becomes the envoy of the new generation. The appearance of Stulic and Azra at the rock scene of ex Yugoslavia is of crucial importance to the Yugoslav rock and roll. Stulic was the first one to bring serious contents to rock songs and treated them with equal seriousness, and at the same time he never abandoned his basic rock attitude. In the early stage, Stulic’s texts were aimed to the possibility of communication and its necessity, but the double second album brought a more various approach to songs.
