Product Details
Description: Ethno-rock band “Vrelo” from Ruma, Serbia came straight from nowhere and brought the world’s attention in 2007 when they finished second in the BBC’s contest “The Next Big Thing”. It has been more than a year since then, and boys and girls from the band worked carefully on their debut album, had a couple of appearances (their concerts and Kusturica’s opera “Time of the Gypsies”) and built their recognizable image and appearance.
Vrelo was founded by Natasa Tomic at the very begining of 1999 in Ruma, what was at the time Yugoslavia. During that period it was purely female vocal group that perfomed the traditional music of the ancient Serbia. Following year was the year when this vocal group became a vocal-instrumental ethno ensemble VRELO comprised of 18 female vocals and 7 musicians playing traditional instruments. Up to 2003 VIEE VRELO explores, studies and works on the Serbian folk music and the music of the other Slavic nations with emphasis on the Byzantine rhythmic structures. Vrelo performs several solo cocerts, records several music TV shows and appears at music festivals. They also recorded a CD (which has not been officialy released) named UZDE NA BELO.
At the end of the summer 2003 they join the recording of the soundtrack for Emir Kusturica's film "Life is Miracle".
Autmn of 2003 brought many changes into the group. Stanko Tomic brought up an idea which totally changed the concept of Vrelo. Vocal-instrumental ethno ensemble was transformed into a band and the traditional music substance was no longer used as the basis of their work but as the motif whose position was changable. Sometimes the motiif is the background, sometimes is the structure, sometimes the atmosphere or only the insinuation. The reduction - minimalistic approach ( big semibreves, big dices...), adjustedness and nakedness of the expression through two-three instruments only at one side and seven voices composed into one unbreakable sound wall on the other side, makes Vrelo the guardians of the national identity and authenticity of Serbian music becoming a part of the world music. The great influence on the band's work has been made by the music producer Voja Aralica since 2005.
