In this luminous tale, set in the former Yugoslavia, Perhan, an engaging young Gypsy with telekinetic powers, is seduced by the quick-cash world of petty crime, which threatens to destroy him and those he loves. Raised by his grandmother in the suburbs of Sarajevo, in love with Azra, Perhan dreams to earn money to be able to marry her. Ahmed, the local "godfather", proposes to Perhan to follow him to Italy and make fortune. From then on, Perhan is a prisoner of a world without scruples, which he does not want. But in order to survive, he must yield to Ahmed’s rules... Perhan's deception will be the highest: the European dream remains inaccessible for gypsies, condemned to suffer and wander, but in dignity...
Emir Kusturica the director of this movie, is one of the rare directors, along with Francis Ford Coppola, Bille August and Shohei Imamura, to have been bestowed two Palme d'Or awards: the first one in 1985 for "When Father Was Away on Business", and again 10 years later for "Underground". In 1989, the Sarajevo-born filmmaker also won the Best Director Award for "The Time of the Gypsies".

malo je zbunjujuci jezik, jer govore i romski i svakako, a titl nije bas adekvatan, ali film je vrhunski, nije kusturica dzabe velikan, preporucujem ga svioma, jer umetnost je univerzalna i ko hoce taj i shvati.
