Product Details
Description: With his first novel, Marko Vidojkovic presents himself as an authentic representative of one generation, one culture and one understanding of life. His narrative is almost autobiographic, vivid and direct, in a language that is like the story itself – violent, turned into the generational code. The Dance of Small-Time Demons is the story of Boban Sestic, a 16-year-old punk. Boban lives in Belgrade. A child to divorced parents. A punk. In the autumn of 1991, Boban falls in love with Ana, but the love remains unrequited. At that point, what was supposed to be an ordinary teenage story, in an extraordinary country of distorted values, becomes a teenage nightmare. And while war rages in the country, puberty rages within Boban. He starts taking anti-depressants with alcohol, playing truant, slashing his arms with razorblades. The unrequited love becomes the center of the boy’s universe whose parents have no jobs and whose teachers are not willing to teach. Boban’s anarchist ideas become meaningless in a country of war crimes, pyramid schemes and hyperinflation. Will Boban win his battle against the whole world?
