Product Details
Description: Indjija is a town located in eastern Srem at the edges of the Fruska Gora hills. The first time it was mentioned in documents was back in 1455 as a feudal domain. In the charter of Despot Jovan Brankovic in 1496, it was mentioned as a settlement for the first time. The old medieval Indjija, which citizens were living in dugouts was placed a little bit to the north than today’s town. After the end of the Austrian-Ottoman war in 1699, Indjija remained in the Ottoman part of Srem. After the battle at Petrovaradin and liberation from the Ottoman rule in 1717 it became a feudal domain of count Marko Pejacevic. After the migration of Serbs in 1746. begins the period of today’s Indjija. During 19th century the most of the newcomers were Germans and Hungarians.
